Do we ever get enough of Vlisco campaigns ?

Nigerian luxury design house Jewel by Lisa  introduced their latest collection at the MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2012. I am a big fan of Jewel by Lisa and they have released amazing collections in the past but this is not one of my favorite ones. The collection is very coherent and  well executed but I am just not feeling the prints. It looks sad , but way better than some other collections I have seen on the same runway. Kibonen NY is an ethical fashion brand, and a fresh fusion of the Western Highland Cameroonian garment, the toghu, with a contemporary twist. The company aims to capture an international clientele through its trendy West African designs and sensual silhouettes. KibonenǀNY utilizes assorted African fabrics to enrich every piece produced, such as wax prints, tye-dye, kanga and bogolan (Mud Cloth). After realizing the ability of ethical fashion to provide sustainable income to local talent, particularly undervalued female garment weavers, KibonenǀNY together with some partners formed the Cameroon Fashion Common Initiative Group and instigated the start up of an ethical factory, Made in Camer. This factory is currently an independent charity based eco and ethical clothing production unit, which provides employment to Cameroonians in one of the poorest communities. KNY in conjunction with Made in Camer aims to create a sustainable and creative long term solution to Cameroon’s economic crisis by putting forward community driven, ethical and environmentally friendly trade in fashion.

Iconic Invanity unveiled its S/S 2013 Collection “Luxury Sweet Candy” at the MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week.  I love the prints in the collection and the embellished kitenge dresses is giving me a little Jewel by Lisa vibe.This collection was one of the best of the MTN LFDW and this label is definitely one to watch. UK based Nigerian fashion label  Nkwo   presented its new collection  during the MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2012.  Have not seen anything from Nkwo for a while now. I wish they had a functioning website so we can get news on what they are up to. Full collection below......

Nigerian designer Folake Folarin-Coker, presented her 2013 Spring/Summer collection for her label Tiffany Amber AGAIN during MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2012. The collection was first introduced in New York during the Arise African Icons Collective.

This is a very exciting news indeed. According to Fashionista  JCPenney just announced a “seasonal collaboration” with London-based Nigerian designer Duro Olowu.The line will be available in JCP stores and online from March through May 2013 and includes women’s clothing and accessories, as well as a home line–think dinnerware, stationery, and decor.

R&B rising star  Elle Varner tweeted this  pic of herself  wearing the cute African print dress. Elle has a very unique style and as you know she is a big fan of kitenge/African print. You can check out other cute outfits from Elle  here 

These cute kitenge hats are selling fast they are made by Moupia.We've seen Solange Knowles wearing a similar hat by South African designer Babatunde a few weeks ago.

Senegalese newcomer Sophie Nzinga Sy debuted her very first collection during  Black Fashion week Paris 2012.

Senegalese Fashion designer Adama Ndiaye aka Adama Paris  is  the founder of Paris Black fashion week ,Black Fashion Week in Prague and also Dakar fashion week.  You might also remember Adama from this post when she designed this beautiful  African print swimsuit for  Misses black  France.She has been working hard for the last 10 years to put African designers and African fashion on the map.  I hope that Paris Black Fashion Week becomes a yearly gig.  Her full collection below 

As previously reported on this post here we are finally getting a glance at the cover of Solange Knowles on the cover of Elle South Africa. In case you are wondering which designer made Solange clothes on this cover , She is wearing Shorts from   South African designer Loin Cloth and Ashes and a printed top from Tart. The African tribal hand jewelry are from Pichulik. You know I am bias when it comes to Solo so I am not going to comment on the look . What do you think ?

I am not a blogging guru or anything but I have been  doing this for almost 4 years now so I know a few things here and there that might help you if you are just starting out. You can ask me questions about African fashion, how to navigate this blog....... The inspiration for WASHINGTON ROBERTS Spring Summer 2013 collection came from The Sapeurs of Congo along with his trip to Curacao. The designer wanted to convey what a modern woman would wear if she were a Sapeur visiting or living in Curacao, by creating beautiful harmonies from combination of vibrant colours, with cerulean blue, orange, seafoam, baby Pink, yellow, wine red, and cyclamen.

Congolese born, London based Womenswear designer Tina Lodondi just released her new Spring/summer collection. Tina designs are very classic and chic. The collection has everything from blazers, to dresses, skirts and shirts so we can all definitely find something we like. Honestly I am still having a hard time choosing my fave piece. I reached out to Tina to find out what was the inspiration behind this beautiful collection here is what she has to say:

"I wanted to create a look for the new generation of girls and women who wants to embrace the African prints. It is chic and feminine, with girls cuts. I observed what the girls wore in the Chelsea area of London and I thought they were missing some colours...I really wanted this collection to follow on the last one and to create a brand identity."
