JUST IN: WASHINGTON ROBERTS SPRING/SUMMER 2013 COLLECTION


The inspiration for WASHINGTON ROBERTS Spring Summer 2013 collection came from The Sapeurs of Congo along with his trip to Curacao. The designer wanted to convey what a modern woman would wear if she were a Sapeur visiting or living in Curacao, by creating beautiful harmonies from combination of vibrant colours, with cerulean blue, orange, seafoam, baby Pink, yellow, wine red, and cyclamen.

WASHINGTON ROBERTS AUTUMN/WINTER 2012 PRESENTATION



Washington Roberts  introduced  his Autumn/Winter 2012 collection  at dark yet romantic structure among Manhattan’s fashion district, the Bryant Park Hotel a few days ago . A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Roberts’ family history in fashion has played an integral part in his development as a designer. The romantic yet dark setting of the hotel plays to the raw textures and metallics of this upcoming collection. Imagine Michael Jackson circa the 1980’s plated leathers, lustrous twills, intense hardware, studded accessories, and color blocking. All unique characteristics that Roberts hopes to portray through his use of metallic brocades, plush leathers, raw silk tweeds, and silk metallics. Through use of dimensional layering, angled tailoring, and mix mashing of fabric, this collection portrays the same level of edge and sophistication reminiscent of the King of Pop. The Washington Roberts collection is designed for the refined woman, who appreciates an easy transition from day to night.

Lookbook: Washington Roberts SS11 Collection



The Washington Roberts Spring Summer 2011 Collection probes the scientific realm of Avatar (2009, James Cameron,) with its angular shapes and seaming.
“Geometry” calls to the makeup and costuming of the film with the manipulation of fabrics, cut outs, and experimentation with different textures. This collection is the epitome of edge, sophistication, femininity, and elegance. This collection is iconic Washington Roberts.
The defining image on the designer’s namesake sight, the “Navi” blazer, pairs Organza with novelty Tweed Fabric, for the ultimate relationship of sex and business. A provocative hint of skin is presented throughout the collection through the use of Chiffon, Organza, and Lace. Such looks as the “Eywa,”plays on this season’s mix-mash trend - pairing bold colors and patterns- with a slight twist of skin. Overall the collection presents equal parts business and pleasure, each piece easily translates from work to play. If nothing else, Washington Robert’s definitely knows how to accentuate the female physique with fun, modern, and bold pieces.
