INTRODUCING LIBERIAN DESIGNER ARCHEL BERNARD

 According to the designer

"It’s Archel as a clothing collection began a few years ago when Archel Bernard returned from her hometown of Monrovia, Liberia with about 30 dresses to sell to her friends in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The dresses completely sold out because Africans and African Americans in the States were all excited to have a piece of fashion from West Africa. Now Archel develops more and more ready to wear styles to sell in Liberia and in the United States. Each piece is simple, fun, affordable, and one of a kind. No one will ever have the exact same dress in the exact same cloth, similar to a true tailoring experience in Liberia. The best thing about the shop is that each piece is handmade by a Liberian woman, which means each purchase helps lift a girl your age from the ashes of war through her work. Now, everyone with any budget can have a piece of contemporary West African fashion."

Continue reading I AM HOOKED ! 6 CONFORTABLE AFRICAN PRINT SHOES YOU NEED IN YOUR CLOSET THIS SUMMER

When it comes to shoes I love mine bright, bold, and and confortable. Honestly I am a flats gal. There are too reasons why I dont work well with High heels. I can't walk in them properly ,I am 5 11 already so any more inches will take me to the sky (lol). If you are looking for beautiful African print sandals and flats I would look not further than Ghanaian (Canada based) shoes label Sepha. Although sepha has melted my little heart with their shoes they are not the only label who caught my eyes. Below are 5 African prints shoes that will brighten you shoe closet:

WASHINGTON ROBERTS AUTUMN/WINTER 2012 PRESENTATION

Washington Roberts  introduced  his Autumn/Winter 2012 collection  at dark yet romantic structure among Manhattan’s fashion district, the Bryant Park Hotel a few days ago . A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Roberts’ family history in fashion has played an integral part in his development as a designer. The romantic yet dark setting of the hotel plays to the raw textures and metallics of this upcoming collection. Imagine Michael Jackson circa the 1980’s plated leathers, lustrous twills, intense hardware, studded accessories, and color blocking. All unique characteristics that Roberts hopes to portray through his use of metallic brocades, plush leathers, raw silk tweeds, and silk metallics. Through use of dimensional layering, angled tailoring, and mix mashing of fabric, this collection portrays the same level of edge and sophistication reminiscent of the King of Pop. The Washington Roberts collection is designed for the refined woman, who appreciates an easy transition from day to night.

LOOKBOOK: EDITALO DESIGNS S/S 2012 COLLECTION

Introducing for the first time on ciaafrique Nigerian/American designer Olatide Adeniyi. Olatide is the head designer of Editalo designs which was launched in 2009.She recently showcased her work during the African fashion week in New york and even made it to the front page of the style section of the Washington post last summer.

She describes  her new spring/summer collection as
"Playful, flirty and fun with a hint of subtle glamour".
The collection stays true to Editalo’s style making use of high waistlines and full skirts incorporating traditional fabrics with modern-day silhouettes. The first 2 dresses above are definitely my favorite.
