Ciaafrique fashionista of the week:Lisa Bisa

Name: Lisa Bisa

Country: US by way of Jamaica

Favorite Designer: This is absolute cruelty for a fashionista on a budget because these designers aren't cheap... but my fav designers that I fantasize about include Balmain, Rachael Roy, Azzedine Alaïa, Elie Saab, Balenciaga, Costume National, Tom Ford (Autumn/Winter 2011 Women’s Collection), Bill Blass and Alexandre Vauthier. I also like DKNY, Betsey Johnson, and many others.

What is your style? If given the funds and the opportunity, I could seriously wear couture and not feel over dressed for any occasion because I love the shapes and risk that the designers take to create each garment. But since we’re talking about my current personal style (lol) I would have to say that it truly changes given the occasion ranging from glam rock to cute and casual. But most of all I love colour! Before colour blocking was a trend I was wearing it! Oh and I also love vintage!

Crafting Style That's Hand Made In America

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Crafting Style That's Hand Made In America

Saharah Studio of Glenn Dale, Maryland takes a low tech approach towards creating high style that's hand made in America. Fashion Designer Patricia Sehar Peerzada features hand made, limited edition clothing, often hand block printed with her own patterns.  Block printing on fabrics is an age-old textile technique that's shared by many indigenous cultures around the world.

The hand printed clothing is individually printed so there are no two alike, but they carry similar design elements
. All of the designs in the collections are created by Patricia, and she creates pieces for all figure types.
"Using shapes that are unique to my line, I flatter the figure with inspiration from traditional world fashion sources, blending and mixing to create a palatable modern style." states Patricia. Both Patricia's fashion lines,"Roc The Bloc" and "Saharah", have consistently presented during New York Fashion Week; and have been featured in various publications around the world. The Roc The Bloc's signature style has hand printed, ethnic textiles; while the Saharah Collection is distinguished by it's artistic shapes that flatter the figure.

LOOKBOOK: ANITA QUANSAH A/W 2011

The latest AQL collection is actually based on two subjects relating to the film "Avatar" and also borders around works by Valentim Quaresma- an artist and designer, known for his use of industrial materials in his work.According to the creative designer and current award winner of Fashion Finest's Accessory designer of the year - Anita Horsfall...
" I wanted to create a collection that has an earthy feel to it, but looks industrial at the same time, hence the use of semi precious stones and beads fused with hardware such as bolts, safety pins and washers, things used every day by human but used in an unconventional way to create show stopping statement pieces"......

Just like the film Avatar, the collection is in close relationship and interaction between culture and civilization. Hence highlighting the focus of the collection which is primarily on the recycled components making the pieces edgier yet feminine at the same time, fusing them with bright hues.
