Lala Antony in Sass & Bide Mud cloth inspired dress
Remember months ago we were all going Gaga over the new Sass&bide mud cloth inspired collection ? I had yet to see a celeb rocking one of the pieces from the collection until 2 days ago when Lala Anthony wore this dress to attend the Bottles and Strikes in New York. The dress looks fab on her. We've noticed that a lot of celebs are wearing African print however few of them wore designs made by African designers. I am wondering why ? Are our African designers in the diaspora putting themselve out there to be noticed ? Big Question.. Anyways if you like what Lala is wearing Malian fashion designer Mariah Bocoum makes beautiful mud cloth dresses.

Fashion Trend: Mud Cloth
Living in Mali I never paid much attention to the mud cloth Because for me there was nothing nice about it. All I cared about was western clothes. My mind changed quite a bit since I started this blog because now I know that its because of the way we thought that we are still behind in fashion . I am ashamed to say that it took a western designer to use my own cloth for me to appreciate how beautiful it is.The mud cloth is a fabric that is part of my culture, and its not made in the west like Ankara(wax) is . Here is a collage from some of our fav celebs and runway models rocking the trend.

Inspired by Africa :Max Mara representation of the Mud cloth
The Mud cloth, or bogolan as we call it in Mali , is a unique African textile. Producing this cotton fabric is an ancient home-craft, and the finished mud cloths are an authentic traditional art form. This is not the real mud cloths however as you can its inspired from it . Max Mara representation
