Lookbook : House of Makeda, Fela inspired Ogeyinka 2011 collection

Click here to see the rest of the House of Makeda collection

Ogeyinka 2011, meaning surrounded by beauty and style in Yoruba, is the new collection from the House of Makeda, the iconic afrocentric design house by jazz singer Teni. House of Makeda was established two years ago in Lagos, Nigeria and is truly unique in African fashion, with a warm, earthy 2600 square foot flagship space in Lagos, where artistic director Teni also performs with her ten piece band the Afro-Renaissance.

Lookbook: Washington Roberts SS11 Collection

The Washington Roberts Spring Summer 2011 Collection probes the scientific realm of Avatar (2009, James Cameron,) with its angular shapes and seaming.
“Geometry” calls to the makeup and costuming of the film with the manipulation of fabrics, cut outs, and experimentation with different textures. This collection is the epitome of edge, sophistication, femininity, and elegance. This collection is iconic Washington Roberts.
The defining image on the designer’s namesake sight, the “Navi” blazer, pairs Organza with novelty Tweed Fabric, for the ultimate relationship of sex and business. A provocative hint of skin is presented throughout the collection through the use of Chiffon, Organza, and Lace. Such looks as the “Eywa,”plays on this season’s mix-mash trend - pairing bold colors and patterns- with a slight twist of skin. Overall the collection presents equal parts business and pleasure, each piece easily translates from work to play. If nothing else, Washington Robert’s definitely knows how to accentuate the female physique with fun, modern, and bold pieces.
Washington Roberts Spring Summer collection brings certain sophistication with its presumed elegance and hint of modernization. WR is created for the woman who desires to look feminine yet strong, confident and impeccably stylish.

AUSTRIAN LACE – NIGERIAN FASHION

House of Bunor
On Saturday May 14th, 2011, the Lagos Expo, Eko Hotel Lagos was transformed with lace at the Austrian Lace Nigerian Fashion Event. The event was hosted by the Austrian Embroidery Association in collaboration with the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy. The evening was a celebration of the trade relationship between the Austrian Lace manufacturers and Nigeria; a relationship which has existed since the 1960’s and is still ongoing. As part of the measures to protect that trade relationship, the Austrian Embroidery Association led by their President, Mr Markus Riedmann emphasised the need for Austrian Lace customers to watch out for the hologram, a new device specially designed to help potential customers shop for authentic Austrian Lace.

Vlisco New collection Dazzling Graphics

"Go figure! A graphic statement of outspoken silhouettes exemplifies the new ‘Dazzling Graphics’ fabric collection from Vlisco. In-focus outlines and an edgy sharpness create a trompe l’oeil effect of movement. Distinct forms bedazzle the mind and set a psychedelic mood. Overwhelming, vivid colours further emphasize the interplay of black and white, creating a shock in design. Dazzling curves combine with psychedelic circles and an abundance of block shapes, together transforming into new shapes."

Don't you wish you could just want into a store and grab these clothes ?
