Kenyan Designer John Kaveke to make London Fashion Week Debut London, UK; Kenyan designer John Kaveke will showcase his new collection
on 16th September 2011 during London Fashion Week at the Luxurious Charing Cross Hotel.


Having studied in Kenya and Spain and worked as a designer for other labels, it was inevitable that John Kaveke would eventually set up his own label entitled ‘Kaveke’. John has been heavily involved in a number of prestigious projects such as the International Smirnoff Fashion Awards, Sarajevo Fashion Week and Catwalk Kenya.


Offering both contemporary and classic looks,Kaveke’s work is edgy and promotes individuality, designing for both men and
women. Inspired by African themes, Kaveke
remains universally desirable as it adds a cosmopolitan flair. Using a variety of textures and shades of colours, Kaveke’s collection is versatile and inspirational.Attracting fashion press, buyers and upscale consumers, John Kaveke will be presenting his latest collection at the ‘A La Mode’ London Fashion Week Catwalk show hosted by LGN Events.

I saw these cute bags yesterday on Afrolectic and after a few clicks I found these pics from their facebook page. This is the work of  Australian based designer Wanyika Mshila(Kenyan). According to their site FroQ AfriQ was born from a marriage of African culture with western style.Their signature items are sophisticated, elegant and classic hand crafted leather bags and accessories, designed and made in Australia.

  Beshlie Mckelvie, great granddaughter of the influential designer William Shand-Kydd, collaborated with the Sophia forum, (www.sophiaforum.net), the UK Chapter of the UNAIDS Global Coalition on Women and HIV, to create this Exclusive Collection made by Kenyan women. The aim of the project is to raise awareness about the huge issues facing women in relation to HIV. She worked directly with the team of Soko Kenya and aimed to create a sustainable  fair trade employment to some of Kenya's poorest of poor.  The fabrics have been sourced locally using traditional printed Kangas.You can find out more about Beshlie by visiting her site at (www.beshliemckelvie.com)

I first saw the  work of these 2 lovely ladies when they were featured on one of my favorite blog Fashion Junkii . Baganli Jangali is  an accessories  line based in Sidney, Australia and is run by two Kenyans. Their line consist of Handbags , belts and many other accessories. According to their facebook page the  Majority of their work  are artistically designed and handmade in Australia using traditional African fabrics combined with quality genuine leather and other exciting materials to create a contemporary look but still preserve a piece of African textile history. Alek Wek (Sudan)



Alek is the supermodel from Sudan who started her modeling career when she was 18 years old. she worked for Victoria's secret,clinique, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and the list goes on. Along the way Alek started her own designer handbag line called "Wek 1933". Once Again this shows us that you don t have to be light skin ,and beautiful to follow your dream or became a model.
