INSPIRATION BOARD: HOW TO WEAR THE DASHIKI ?


I was in the mood for Dashiki today but I could not find the only Dashiki shirt that was given to me by a friend  in my closet. I have a feeling I might have given it away. Sniff Sniifff !!!!!  Anyways  here are some of my fave bloggers rocking their dashikis with a modern twist.

Fashion Africa : The Kenyan collection by Beshlie Mckelvie

  Beshlie Mckelvie, great granddaughter of the influential designer William Shand-Kydd, collaborated with the Sophia forum, (www.sophiaforum.net), the UK Chapter of the UNAIDS Global Coalition on Women and HIV, to create this Exclusive Collection made by Kenyan women. The aim of the project is to raise awareness about the huge issues facing women in relation to HIV. She worked directly with the team of Soko Kenya and aimed to create a sustainable  fair trade employment to some of Kenya's poorest of poor.  The fabrics have been sourced locally using traditional printed Kangas.You can find out more about Beshlie by visiting her site at (www.beshliemckelvie.com)

AFRICAN FASHION DESIGNER: MAMI AFRICA DESIGNS





If you live the Santa Monica Area (USA) and are looking for some nice African clothes to wear during summer Mami African should be your next stop. She does have some nice design for Young women on the go. According to her website she was inspired by the multitude kind of fabric that Africa had to offer when she went on vacation in Kenya in 2007. Her goal is to Make us young African women wear more of our own culture. There are so many young African designers these days that we could wear clothing from our culture all year around. To tell you the truth i did like to wear my western clothes but that was until i learned about all these nice designers. I wish it was not as cold as it is in Canada. Her collection is for everybody white, black asian, and more. You can check out this lovely lady designs on her Website or if you live in Santa Monica you could check out her store.
