GHANAIAN LABEL 1981 LAUNCHES ITS 2013 COLLECTION "LAYERS"

Nana Kweku Brenu designer of 1981 recently debuted his 2nd collection called "layers". 1981 is a contemporary modern brand specially crafted and tailored to meet the discerning tastes of today's modern woman. This is new collection is a very modern, effortless, sophisticated and wearable collection. I love African designers that use other fabrics other than African print. Find out the inspiration behind the collection and peep more photos below.

Inspiration"For the second collection, I analysed the concept of layers found in architecture and modern design. I was drawn to how fluid or structured/ rigid they looked through the materials used in the construction. I drew inspiration from the Design Museum in Holon by Ron Arad and "Mutated Panels" an art installation by Richard Meier. In translating this into the collection, a contrast was created between structured vs fluid layers and achieved this through the use of fabrics with diff technical properties. (e.g., a stiff and rigid jersey fabric vs a fluid and soft silk cady fabric). For colours a neutral palette was chosen to help convey that architectural feeling while adding a touch of colour to bring some warmth and pop to the collection, reflecting once again the notion of contrast fundamental to the brands philosophy. These elements help give a three dimensional and modern look and feel to the collection."
